In stress, the enneagram 7 takes on the negative traits of the enneagram 1, The Perfectionist. The normally care-free type 7 becomes controlling and uncooperative.
Not in the sense that they suddenly lose their free-loving spirit and become a responsible person, in fact, this stress amplifies their need for fun more and they go about attaining it with more intensity and control.
Another unknown sign of a 7 in stress can be frugality and isolation taking on the unhealthy aspects of the Enneagram 5!

What An Enneagram 7 Needs For Self Care.
So what do enneagram 7s need when it comes to self care?
First, a 7 needs to fulfill their core desire of fun by doing things that are new, entertaining, and fulfilling. This could be going for a run, hanging out with friends, or a creative hobby.
But the enneagram 7 also needs to embrace both their wings for their self care too. Self care for the enneagram 7s 8 wing means challenging themselves and building loyal connections and stability for their 6 wing.
And to complete their self care practice, an enneagram 7 needs to embrace the heathy traits of their growth numbers.
Finding time to take keep their life organized to their benefit (,embracing the enneagram 1,) and withdrawing into their mind (taking on the enneagram 5) is extremely important for the enneagram 7s self care.

1. Connect With Friends
7s need people to be happy. For your self care, 7s, make time to connect with friends. Who are the people closest to you? When was the last time you got to have a good conversation with them? Don’t just be around anyone for the sake of avoiding being alone, be around those how make you feel fulfilled and whole.
2. Journal Your Emotions
For a lot of enneagram 7s, this self care practice can be challenging. But it is extremely beneficial for 7s to journal their emotions every day.
7s struggle to face negativity. By journaling, 7s practice emotional awareness and they become more comfortable with their negative emotions.

3. Vocalize Your Struggles
Enneagram 7s, while you should definitely make time to go within and reflect on your negative feelings, we also sometimes heal and learn best through speaking.
For your self care, open up and express your struggles with someone you trust. Try to avoid throwing a joke on it, trust that your vulnerability will be met with kindness.

4. Music Journaling
Journaling by itself can be hard because it lacks clear direction. So 7s, try this music journaling exercise. Put a pair of headphones and play a variety of songs.
As you listen, write down how each song makes you feel and why. Let the music prompt your thinking and write these thoughts down. Stay focused on self reflection and don’t let wild, creative ideas take hold of you.

5. Daily Silence
AHHHH silence! A 7s worst fear! In all seriousness, 7s, this may be the single most impactful thing you can do for your self care. Practice learning to be in silence. No stimulation, just noticing your thoughts as you focus on a task or go about your day.
It’ll feel really uncomfortable at first but if you can make time for silence every day on your drive to work, an hour before bed, 30 minutes in the morning, etc, you’ll notice an emotional shift and you’ll become must more comfortable with negativity.

6. Healthy Eating Habits
A 7s deadly sin is gluttony and their core desire is fun. This means they can struggle a lot with making healthy decisions. Most 7s would much rather go out drinking with friends than stay in and cook a healthy meal.
For an enneagram 7s self care, incorporate 1 new healthy eating habit. Make a home-cooked meal every dinner, prepare yourself a healthy breakfast the night before, eat more meat, veggies, and healthy fats. Whatever healthy habit you incorporate, try to maintain it for at least a month.
Are your thoughts getting ahead of you, type 7? Practice literally grounding into the earth to get out of your head. Walk barefoot, climb a tree, breathe and be in nature for your self care.

Movement is a great self care option for 7s with their restless energy levels. Ideally, make time for yoga alone at home where you can’t get sucked into what other people are doing. Make this practice about your improving your mind-body connection.
9. Have Fun
Sound easy enough, 7s? See if you can find ways to have fun that support your health and make time for those. Paint, hike, play an instrument, rock climb, cook, these are some ideas but generally, focus on healthy forms of fun.
10. Minimize Distractions
This also could be done as a technology detox but the type 7s growth is about learning moderation over extremes.
7s, see if you can bring more moderation into your life by minimizing how many distractions you implement at once. Do one thing at a time, then move onto the next.
11. Time Your Obligations
7s can struggle to get obligations done. Take care of yourself by setting a set amount of time to work on your obligations. When the timer goes off, you can stop.
Meditation can be intimidating but there is no reason to be. It’s the best thing we can do for ourselves! When we sit in silence, we allow any deep rooted problems, emotions, thoughts, and more to come out of hiding to be healed.
13. Morning & Evening Routine
Enneagram 7s do best with a little bit of order in their day. Add a morning and evening routine to your self care practice.
Here are some of my favorite morning/evening routines I’ve created.
- Make coffee, do a tarot pull, journal, then post for work.
- Write a poem for an hour, make coffee/tea, get dressed
- Meditate to my favorite playlist, read for self growth, work on something for long term income
14. Journal Your Future
Open your third eye, type 7s, and connect with a long term vision to stay aligned with the best version of yourself. This is an important part of your self care. It’ll help you not get caught in seeking stimulation or pleasure and instead, focus on long term happiness.

15. Challenge Yourself
How do you challenge yourself, type 7? Maintain connection to the body by finding a form of challenge that you love such as running, a workout, or biking. You have more energy than you can hold, find a healthy way to exert it using challenge.
16. Schedule Your Day
Wake up with an intention for each day, enneagram 7s. An intention past “have fun and make people happy,” there’s nothing wrong with this intention, but schedule out your day to attain that to your best abilities.
