In stress, the enneagram 6 takes on the negative traits of the enneagram 3, The Achiever. The normally caring type 6 becomes self-centered and aggressive. They lose their compassion and focus on achievement in an unhealthy manner. Often cutting off their friends and family.
Another unknown sign of a 6 in stress can be laziness and avoidance taking on the unhealthy aspects of the Enneagram 9!

What An Enneagram 6 Needs For Self Care.
So what do enneagram 6s need when it comes to self care?
First, a 6 needs to fulfill their core desire of security by doing things that make them feel grounded. This could be spending time in nature, connecting with a trusted friend, or preparing themselves a healthy meal.
But the enneagram 6 also needs to embrace both their wings for their self care too. Self care for the enneagram 6s 7 wing means making time for fun and drawing within to their mind for their 5 wing.
And to complete their self care practice, an enneagram 6 needs to embrace the heathy traits of their growth numbers.
Finding time to relax, nurture friendships, and let loose (,embracing the enneagram 9,) and setting goals (taking on the enneagram 3) is extremely important for the enneagram 6s self care.

1. Earthing/Grounding
Physically connecting to the earth will be extremely soothing for enneagram 6s and will help your nervous system regulate itself. For your self care, enneagram 6, routinely get grounded into nature by standing barefoot, climbing trees, or just walking outdoors.

2. Connect With Friends
Because loyalty is your core desire, type 6, make time to hang out with a friend you trust. 6s can easily push people away when they feel betrayed. Remember to reflect on whether your friends have genuine intentions and mean no harm.
3. Plan Vacations
Type 6s, practice self care on a large scale by planning more vacations into your life. We know you don’t have all the free time in the world but making sure that you make time to get away and enjoy life is essential for your self care. It doesn’t always have to be a long vacation, just long enough that you can forget your obligations.

4. Journal Positive Memories
This is a hugely impactful self care practice for the enneagram 6! 6s struggle with projecting negative outcomes and can have trouble being optimistic. For your self care, make an effort to journal any time something had a positive outcome. Journal old positive memories.
Focus your mind on positivity an watch how your world seems to become more positive.
5. Anxiety Check-Ins
A small self care habit 6s should practice is checking in with their anxiety levels throughout the day. Set an alarm on your phone that goes off throughout the day and check in with how anxious you feel.
Remember anxiety isn’t always nervous hands and jitters. It could be thinking about work 24/7, it could appear as anger to mask the worries. So it might not seem like you are anxious at first but look deeper, are there worries beyond the surface?
6. Mantras
I believe mantras are the most powerful self care tool for enneagram 6s! The simplest way we can combat negative thoughts and promote positive beliefs are through mantras.

- “I will not let people’s words offend me”

7. Calming Hobbies
Type 6’s need hobbies or tasks that bring them peace of mind. What do you do that brings you a sense of zen? Maybe it’s gardening, maybe it’s yoga, maybe it’s reading. Whatever it is, make time for these things on a daily basis!

Breathwork can help us tremendously for 6s! By practicing breathwork, we stay grounded in the present and clear our minds to look at why we are tense in the first palace. Try incorporating breathwork into your self care practice.
9. Have Fun
What is fun for you, 6s? Paint, hike, play an instrument, rock climb, cook, go out with friends, find ways to have fun and be carefree with others often.

10. Read A Good Book
Making time to enjoy a good book can seem like a very basic self care practice and that’s what makes it so great. Type 6s, if you’re trying to incorporate more self care into your life, start by making time to read a book you’ve wanted to read.
11. Be Creative
Everyone needs to embrace their creativity, especially 6s. Find your creative outlet and practice self expression for your self care. Creativity isn’t always painting if that’s not your thing. Creativity is the act of free-flowing creation. Movement can be creativity, building can be creativity, get creative with how you be creative.

Meditation can be intimidating but there is no reason to be. It’s the best thing we can do for ourselves! When we sit in silence, we allow any deep rooted problems, emotions, thoughts, and more to come out of hiding to be healed.

Do you make time to chill, type 6? It’s your growth number to do so! Embrace your enneagram 9 growth number by having zen mornings. Do something calming like a meditation or just watch the world go by with a cup of coffee.
