We are comparing the Enneagram 3w2 with the 3w4 so you can find out which one you truly are. Because whether you’re a wing two or a wing three is going to extremely affect how you move through your day. Let’s do this!
Why Does My Wing Matter?
Before we continue, remember that your enneagram wing does not change your core desires. Your enneagram type determines your core desires and core fears. Your enneagram wing determines your behaviors. See the difference? Recognizing your wing can also help you avoid mistyping! If neither of the wings seems to resonate with you, then you might have mistyped.
We are comparing the the 3W4, known as “The Professional,” verses the 3W2, known as “The Charmer”. By knowing your wing, you can live in better alignment and fulfill your core desire with ease.

Enneagram Type 3 Overview
The enneagram type three is called The Achiever. Your core desire is achievement and to be the best. As a 3, you are ambitious, driven, energetic, competitive, socially likable, and goal-oriented.
Your core desire comes from the fear that if you aren’t the best then you are unworthy of love. Flaunting your authenticity and “chillin'” doesn’t come naturally to you.
But depending on your wing, how you go about fulfilling this core desire of achievement and being the best will be different.
If you are a 3w2, you’re looking to be the most liked and star of the show whereas, if you are a 3w4, you care less about being center stage and are intrinsically driven to be the best at what you do.
Enneagram 3w2 vs 3w4 Comparison
In the enneagram, one wing is considered more “extraverted” and the other more “introverted” this doesn’t mean you have to be an introvert or extravert to be a certain wing, it just means you are going to have louder or quieter tendencies depending on which wing is dominant. The 3w2 is the extraverted wing and will seem much louder and social than the 3w4 counterpart.
People in the enneagram community say that the goal is to have balance in your wings but we disagree (to some extent). Yes, you should have space in your life where you embrace each of your wings but it doesn’t matter if they are balanced. We believe that it’s extremely important that we know our dominant wing.

The reason for this is because your wing plays a big role in lifestyle and habits. By knowing your wing, you can know what kind of habits and what way of life will bring you peak happiness.
Especially for you, wonderful type 3! You know that your core desire is to achieve and that your growth is to step into the trusting and authentic nature of a 6, but do you know where in your life you want to achieve that core desire?

Enneagram 3w2
The biggest difference between the 3w2 and 3w4 is the 3w2’s core desire is to be the best at serving others whereas, if you’re a 3w4, you care more about being the best in a way that is aligned with your individuality.
The 3w2 is called “the charmer.” This is going to be the more extroverted wing and they take on the appearance of the helper in some aspects, meaning that they seem kind, giving, and selfless.

They love to be the star of the show. 3w2s are social butterflies and they love to put together community events, throw parties, volunteer, etc.
As a 3w2, you care a lot about your image. You want to be seen as successful and popular in society.
If you are a 3w2, it is vital that you are making time to be with people who allow you to step into your authenticity and make you feel less image conscious. You love to be around people, so make sure the people around you make you feel authentic.

Enneagram 3w4

3w4s, you have a strong sense of creativity and this makes you guys great entrepreneurs. You can take your core desire for achievement and combine it with that sense of individuality to create a business, product, brand, etc, that is unique and stay driven to grow it to success.
The 3w4 is the more introverted wing and they take on the appearance of the individualist in some ways, meaning that they are more artistic, calm, whimsical, and intriguing.

As a 3 wing 4, you care more about being the best version of yourself, not so that you appear successful to society, but because you value seeing yourself grow.
Type 3w4s prefer to have fewer and deeper connections than big social groups so it is vital that you are stepping outside your box to find those like-minded people who appreciate your authenticity and creativity.
Meet new people via one of your hobbies, plan weekly coffee dates with the people you love, or start a mastermind group for something you’re interested in.

Noticing Your Wing Throughout Your Day
Throughout your day, practice noticing when you’re embracing your 2 wing and when you’re embracing your 4 wing.
Do you feel happier when you are around big groups of people, throwing parties and being center stage? Or do you feel better when you on your own, working on the things you are passionate about, pushing yourself to achieve, and connecting with people one-on-one?
