If neither of the wings seems to resonate with you, then you might have mistyped.

This blog is comparing the enneagram type 2w1 to the enneagram type 2w3. By knowing your wing, you can live in better alignment and fulfill your core desire with ease.

Enneagram 2w1 vs 2w3
Here is your guide to the Enneagram 2w1 versus 2w3.

Enneagram Type 2 Overview

The enneagram 2 is called the helper. Your core desire is to be the helper. You want to be there for everyone. As a 2, you are kind, helpful, giving, polite, and compassionate. Your core desire comes from the fear that if you don’t devote yourself to helping others, you are unworthy of love. Being selfish and aggressive doesn’t come naturally to you.

But depending on your wing, how you go about fulfilling this core desire of helping others will be different. If you are a 2w1, you’re looking to help others in more introverted and quiet ways whereas, if you are a 2w3, you want to help others in louder ways, be seen as the most helpful person at the party, and even host the party.

Enneagram 2w1 vs 2w3 Comparison

In the enneagram, one wing is considered more “extraverted” and the other more “introverted” this doesn’t mean you have to be an introvert or extravert to be a certain wing, it just means you are going to have louder or quieter tendencies depending on which wing is dominant. The 2w3 is the extraverted wing and can easily come out when they are in a career where they are forced to interact with people often.

Enneagram 2 Wing Balance
In the enneagram, one wing is considered more “extraverted” and the other more “introverted”

The enneagram says that the goal is to have balance in your wings but we disagree to some extent. Yes, you should have space in your life where you embrace each of your wings but it doesn’t matter if they are balanced. We believe that it’s extremely important that we know our dominant wing.

The reason for this is because your wing plays a big role in lifestyle and habits. By knowing your wing, you can know what kind of habits and what way of life will bring you peak happiness.

Especially for you, wonderful type 2! You know that your core desire is to help others and that your growth is to step into the authentic, individuality of a 4, but do you know where in your life you want to achieve those things?

Enneagram 2w1

The biggest difference between the 2w1 vs 2w3 is the 2w1’s core desire is to help individuals and they are called “The Servant” versus, if you’re a 2w3, you care more about serving mass groups of people and being seen as an amazing host, hence the 2w3s name “The Host/Hostess”.

The 2w1 is going to be the more introverted wing and they take on the appearance of the Perfectionist in some aspects, meaning that they seem quieter, more organized, disciplined, and care more about a clean environment.

You care more about making a difference in individuals’ lives, you want your home to be neat and have order, and you are going to be drawn towards spending more time by yourself.

If you are a 2w1, it is vital that you are scheduling time to be alone, take care of yourself, spend time in nature, relax at home, and recharge. You prefer to work in solitude or with small groups. Having closer one-on-one connections with others is more important to you than having a large social group.

Enneagram 2w3

Like I said earlier, the 2w1s core desire is to help individuals and the 2w3s is to help larger groups and bring people together. It is extremely important to the 2w3 that they are seen as the image of someone successful and giving.

You want to make sure that people can tell that you are a giving type two who’s doing their very best to make sure everyone is getting what they desire. The 2w3 tends to be more is image-conscious than the two wing one.

The 2w3 is the more extroverted wing and they take on the appearance of the Achiever in some ways, meaning that they are more social, chatty, are often seen as successful and self-assured, and well-liked.

As a 2 wing 3, you care more about bringing communities together, hosting parties, taking on leadership roles in the community, and taking care of big groups of people.

Type 2w3s prefers to have a variety of connections and lots of people in their social group so it is vital that you are scheduling time to be around the people who allow you to step into your authenticity and like you for who you are rather than what you do.

Meet new people via one of your hobbies! Or go to a class about something you’re interested in, work in an environment that you don’t feel like you have to chameleonize to people’s liking.
