The enneagram type two is called The Helper. Your core desire is to help and be of service to others.

As a 2, your core desire comes from the fear that if you don’t devote yourself to helping others, you are unworthy of love. Being selfish and expressing yourself doesn’t come naturally to you.

A Stressed Enneagram 2…

In stress, enneagram 2 takes on the negative traits of enneagram 8, The Challenger. The normally kind and caring type 2 becomes aggressive and blunt.

Instead of serving from a place of pure love, they help with the expectation to get approval in return. And when they don’t get that, the Enneagram 2 becomes upset and represses their needs even more.

Another unknown sign of a 2 in stress can be martyrdom and playing the victim, taking on the unhealthy aspects of the Enneagram 4!

What An Enneagram 2 Needs For Self Care.

So what do enneagram 2s need when it comes to self-care?

First, a 2 needs to fulfill their core desire of service by helping out others without expectation of reciprocation or validation.

But Enneagram 2 also needs to embrace both their wings for their self-care too. Self-care for the enneagram 2s 1 wing means keeping their mind and space organized and achieving goals for their 3 wing.

To complete their self-care practice, an enneagram 2 needs to embrace the healthy traits of their growth numbers.

Stepping into more creative expression (, embracing the enneagram 4,) and practicing healthy leadership (, taking on the enneagram 8,) is extremely important for the enneagram 2s self care.

1. Sit In Nature

Make space to be with your thoughts and clear your head, type 2. Practice sitting in nature for your self-care! you are naturally in tune with all the feelings of others, sitting alone in nature will help you get in tune with your own emotions and clear your head.

2. Practice Authenticity

Because 2s are part of the shame triad, they struggle with feelings of unworthiness and can struggle with authenticity. For 2s self-care practice, make an effort to get in touch with your authentic self. This could be in everyday interactions, at a coffee shop, or in close connections, practicing authentic self-expression.

3. Fill Your Tank

As a 2, you naturally forget to take care of yourself, you forgo your needs. See if you can make time to do things that support yourself and fill your tank every day.

4. Do Something New

Get out of your normal habits to discover more aspects of yourself (, your type 4 growth). Do new things! Go to a new place, try a new sport, and make your brain create new neural pathways.

5. Healthy Meals

When an enneagram 2 is under stress, they forget to take care of their basic needs. A simple self-care practice for Enneagram 2s is cooking healthy meals for themselves!

6. Take Care Of Your Koshas

The koshas in yoga philosophy are the 5 layers of our being. Using the koshas as a framework for your self-care can be extremely helpful for Enneagram 2s. Are you taking care of your physical body, your energy, your emotions, your mind, and your connection to your source/god/universe?

7. Journal

Enneagram 2s can highly benefit from journaling. Journaling helps them get in touch with their thoughts and feelings. Get in the habit of journaling your emotions daily, recognize what’s going on internally, and respect whatever you feel. Get comfortable with having feelings, you’re not a robot and shouldn’t expect yourself to be.

Write down what you did do for people and if you did it out of love rather than hoping for affirmation. Also, make an effort to do a daily check-in and ask yourself “What do I need today?”

8. Sacral Chakra Healing

The sacral chakra rules our creativity, individuality, and sense of self-worth. All things Enneagram 2s struggle with! For type 2s self-care, do some sacral chakra healing.

9. Surround Yourself With Animals

In my experience with the type 2s I’ve met, all of them seem to find animals extremely comforting. If this is the case for you, then make time to be around animals for your self-care! Hang out with your pet or go to a petting zoo and embrace your inner child.

10. Serve Through Leadership

Embrace the health aspects of type 8 and embrace your core desire by finding a space to be a leader. This could be guiding a class or an expedition or running a group. Something that allows you to be your creative, compassionate, and unique self without having to be overly empathetic. Own your inner leader that you can be and feel the fulfillment you get from allowing yourself to lead.

11. Be Creative

To embrace your 4 growths, practice creativity! Find your creative outlet and practice self-expression for your self-care. Creativity isn’t always painting if that’s not your thing. Creativity is the act of free-flowing creation. Movement can be creativity, building can be creativity, and get creative with how you are creative.

12. Meditation

Meditation can be intimidating but there is no reason to be. It’s the best thing we can do for ourselves! When we sit in silence, we allow any deep-rooted problems, emotions, thoughts, and more to come out of hiding to be healed.

13. Practice Asking For Help

2s struggle to say “no” to others and ask for help when they need it. For your self-care, practice asking for what you need, even if it’s small. Do this, especially in communication with others! If you don’t understand what someone is saying, ask them to rephrase it so you can understand them. Or if you feel like the person you are talking to isn’t understanding you, ask them to listen as you repeat yourself.

14. Isolation-Vacation

Remember to make time to retreat into your mind and get away from the energies of others. Take small “isolation vacations” to check in with what you need and connect with who you are when you aren’t being the helper.

15. Check Your Values

Embrace your enneagram 1 wing, and check in with what you believe is right and wrong. How do you act from these morals? How could you better act in alignment with them?

16. Set Goals

And finally, to embrace your 3 wings, set goals. This doesn’t have to be a work goal. What is a challenge with a measurable result you could achieve to boost your confidence and be proud of yourself?
